The current focus of my vernal pool research is on water beetles of the genus Hydroporus (Family Dytiscidae). This is a diverse genus with many species occurring in New England temporary and permanent waters. Only a small portion of samples have been identified thus far, but initial results suggest that certain features such as canopy cover/insolation, aquatic vegetation, adjacent forest type, maximum depth, and pool hydroperiod may be correlated with the distribution of some Hydroporus in seasonal forest pools.
