Harvard Forest Symposium Abstract 2017

  • Title: Ecology of headwater streams in central Massachusetts
  • Primary Author: Betsy Colburn (Harvard Forest)
  • Abstract:

This long-term project is assessing the aquatic invertebrates of headwater streams in Central Massachusetts, including seasonally flowing waters and those with continuous flow. Community composition and faunal traits are being evaluated in relation to land-use history, forest composition, hydrologic regime, and in-stream habitat characteristics. The extent of changes in stream fauna and habitat in response to hemlock decline associated with the hemlock woolly adelgid is one of the questions being examined over time.
