This project started as my Bullard Fellowship in summer 2025. We are hoping to continue data collection through 2025 and 2026.
The overall goal of this proposed research is to understand potential lateral “leaks” from terrestrial ecosystems into streams and the subsequent fate of this terrestrially derived carbon in stream networks. We will use novel measurement systems to quantify terrestrial carbon dioxide and methane inputs to streams and models to explore when and where these terrestrially derived greenhouse gases are emitted to the atmosphere. This proposed research is important for understanding carbon fluxes that cross ecosystem boundaries and will contribute to a more processed-based understanding of carbon cycling in forest ecosystems.
