  • Title: Geocaching at Harvard Forest
  • Principal investigator: Meg Fuchs (megfuchs@fas.harvard.edu)
  • Institution: Harvard Forest
  • Primary contact: Meg Fuchs (megfuchs@fas.harvard.edu)
  • Team members: Sherene Aram
  • Abstract:

Meg Fuchs (formerly Hastings) and Sherene Aram designed and placed 5 caches in 2020 at Harvard Forest, after discussing the idea in a lab group in Fall 2019. The containers are acorn-shaped 3-D printed small containers ranging in size from 1" to 2.5". Caches are placed at least 15 feet from a research plot, at least 20 feet from HF property boundary, and within 30 feet of a woods road or footpath. Each cache will also have a strong hint as to its location to minimize any impact in the surrounding terrain. Here are the locations:

    Cache Name Coordinates Notes
    Harvard Forest #1 N 42 31.873 W 072 11.412 Hanging on small pine near the driveway
    Harvard Forest #2 N 42 31.993 W 72 11.482 Hemlock near Sugar Shack
